Ice Fishing

Obviously, Lake George is a vast body of water which has great opportunities for ice fishing. But be careful as this lake freezes late, and sometimes not at all. The ice can be unstable and dangerous. Other lakes in the area that are smaller and freeze first, and have public access, are Brant Lake, Glen Lake, Loon Lake and many more. The Adirondacks are home to over 3000 lakes throughout the park.

Snowshoeing

There are many local areas that provide many miles of snowshoeing options. VisitLakeGeorge.com has an excellent snowshoe guide: https://www.visitlakegeorge.com/blog/post/snowshoeing-101/

Here are some of the notable locations:

Snowmobiling

There are over 300 miles of maintained snowmobile trails throughout the Lake George area. Guided tours are recommended if you are new to the area. While snowmobiling is possible on Lake George, use extreme caution as this lake freezes late, and sometimes not at all. The ice can be unstable and dangerous. Trail riding can be more dynamic and interesting anyways, so we recommend staying off the lake if you are not an expert level rider and know the lake intimately.

Visitlakegeorge.com is a good resource to access information about snowmobiling areas, clubs and tours nearby: https://www.visitlakegeorge.com/outdoors/recreation/snowmobiling/

If you want to venture further from the Lake George area, some of the best snowmobiling areas in the Adironack Park can be found in Old Forge, Speculator and the Tug Hill Plateau.
